Scholarships and Travel Awards

John Jay College offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to support the learning experiences of our academically talented students. These scholarships are awarded by John Jay’s Scholarships Office. To apply for these scholarships, you must complete a  General Scholarship Application. As part of the application, a short personal statement (250 words or less) and two letters of recommendation are required. The personal statement is autobiographical in nature and it should provide the committee with an overview of who you are. In it you can explore your educational and/or personal background, or share a meaningful story about yourself. Please read carefully the instructions for each scholarship, as there may be additional requirements.

Cheryl Williams Student Presentation Scholarship
The Cheryl Williams Student Presentation Scholarship supports students interested in presenting at professional conferences up to $1,000. Cheryl loved the students of John Jay and created this fund to ensure that learning and growth would be provided for them in the future.  Rolling Deadline; please submit an application at least 6-8 weeks prior to the professional conference that you plan on attending. Young Scholars Award
The Young Scholars Award promotes student participation at scholarly conferences. If approved by the Scholarship Committee, students can receive up to a maximum of $1,000. Undergraduate Research Scholarship
If you are an undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and 60 earned credits, you may be eligible for the Undergraduate Research Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. This scholarship may be awarded only once in a student’s academic career. The application deadlines for Fall 2014 are October 9 and November 6, 2014. The application deadlines for Spring 2015 are March 12 and April 9, 2015. For more information, please go here.

Upper Division Scholarship
If you have completed at least 45 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.35, you may be eligible for an Upper Division Scholarship of $2,000. This scholarship may be awarded only once in a student’s academic career. For more information, please go here.

Computer Science and Forensic Science Scholarship for Freshmen and Transfer Students
Undergraduate students pursing Computer Information Systems or Forensic Science are eligible to apply for a special scholarship opportunity. This program was made possible by the Department of Science and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Funding is provided by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Scholarships are based on financial need. The maximum award amount is $5,000 per academic year for freshmen and $7,500 each year after.
